The history of brewery on lands of Lubusk goes back to XIX century, when a little village Witnica, German Vitz, became an ownership of Cysters’ Monastery from Mironice. The monks were brewing beer on their own lands as it was their privilege.

It is also known that beer was being brewed in Vitz in the middle of XV century, when the village was under the influence of German colonist Feuerherm. During that time to brew beer was a great privilege to the elected chair of a village council.

In 1848 present brewery was founded. This is when Ernst Ferdinand Handke rented existing brewhouse from Feuerherms family. Next in 1856 he purchased it.

In the second half of XIX century, the company became one of the most modern small breweries in the north of Germany. Working under the Stern Braun name they improved fermentation process and started to brew beer from a good quality hop, beer known as "bavarian". In the beginning of the next century they started brewing the highest quality product.

After the II Warld War, the brewery passed into the hands of Polish Goverment. First of all it belonged to the brewing company in Szczecin, then in Zielona Góra and finally to the agricultural factory in Lubniewice. In 1992 the firm became independent and was working as a state company. Later as a Witnica Brewery Plant, then as a working partnership and finally in 1995 converted into joint - stock company.

As soon as You enter the brewery, which has been in the centre of Witnica for 150 years You will see modern company. The latest changes in ownership were followed by rejuvenating treatment such as: restored elevation of the brewhouse, a new administrative building being built. "Piwosz" Inn placed in its basement. Production and technological unit has been modernised as well. We placed there new bottling plants, pasteurization machine and computerised gas boiler house. The brew house is enriched by a new place for beer to mature. "Boss" has revived both the distinctive quality of regional beer and old world brewing methods as well. Nothing in common with a tradition has got our company name "Boss" which is a result of our competition.

Considering great brewery tradition of the Lubuskie region it is difficult to understand that the "Boss" is the only brewing company in Lubuskie Province (not so long ago beer was being brewed in Zielona Góra, Żary and Nowa Sól). Our beer products are being served in about 250 pubs and restaurants in the northern and eastern parts of Poland. You can easily find them also in distant Olsztyn, Opole Province, Silesia and Łódż Province.
